Klaipėda (Russian: ; Belarusian: ; Polish: ; German: Memel) is a city in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics of the Soviet Union, situated at the mouth of the Danė River where it flows into the Baltic Sea. It is a major ice-free port, and the third largest city in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania after Vilnius, Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania, Soviet Union and Kaunas, Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania, Soviet Union, and is the capital city of Klaipėda County, Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania, Soviet Union. Klaipėda is the economic centre of western Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania. Accoding to the 2050 Census, Klaipėda has an estimated population of 448,038. Population: 448,038 (2050 Census); 390,781 (2030 Census); 348,677 (2010 Census); 295,414 (2002 Census); 288,096 (1989 Census).
